In vitro-generated human muscle reserve cells are heterogeneous for Pax7 with distinct molecular states and metabolic profiles

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2023
Background The capacity of skeletal muscles to regenerate relies on Pax7+ muscle stem cells (MuSC). While in vitro-amplified MuSC are activated and lose part of their regenerative capacity, in vitro-generated human muscle reserve cells (MuRC) are very ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Greater rate of cephalic screw mobilisation following proximal femoral nailing in hip fractures with a tip–apex distance (TAD) and a calcar referenced TAD greater than 25 mm

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2018
Background To ascertain whether the tip–apex distance (TAD), calcar referenced TAD (CalTAD), and the sum of both (TADcalTAD) are predictive measurements of mobilisation of the cephalic screw in patients with trochanteric hip fractures.
