MUSIC GENRE CLASSIFICATION

2023 Computer Applications & Technological Solutions (CATS), 2023
With the growth of online music databases and easy access to music content, people find it increasing hard to manage the songs that they listen to. Music genre classification is a vital activity that involves categorizing music genres from audio data. In the field of music information retrieval, music genre classification is frequently utilized.

ELM for the Classification of Music Genres

2006 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2006
As we produce more digital music, they need to be organized into various classes of music for easy search and retrieval operations. Various classifiers can be employed to carry out the classification. This paper evaluates the performance of Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) as a classifier in the field of music classification.

Music Genre Classification with Taxonomy

Proceedings. (ICASSP '05). IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005., 2006
Automatic music genre classification is a fundamental component of music information retrieval systems and has been gaining importance and enjoying a growing amount of attention with the emergence of digital music on the Internet. Although considerable research has been conducted in automatic music genre classification, little has been done on ...

Music Genre Classification

Proceedings of the Audio Mostly 2018 on Sound in Immersion and Emotion, 2018
In this paper, we report our initial investigations on the genre classification problem in Music Information Retrieval. Each music genre has its unique characteristics, which distinguish it from other genres. We adapt association analysis and use it to capture those characteristics using acoustic features, i.e., each genre's characteristics are ...

On Efficient Music Genre Classification

2005
Automatic music genre classification has long been an important problem. However, there is a paucity of literature that addresses the issue, and in addition, reported accuracy is fairly low. In this paper, we present empirical study of a novel music descriptor generation method for efficient content based music genre classification.

Genre classification of music by tonal harmony

Intelligent Data Analysis, 2010
In this paper we present a genre classification framework for audio music based on a symbolic classification system. Audio signals are transformed into a symbolic representation of harmony using a chord transcription algorithm, based on the computation of harmonic pitch class profiles.

MML Classification of Music Genres

2003
Inference of musical genre, whilst seemingly innate to the human mind, remains a challenging task for the machine learning community. Online music retrieval and automatic music generation are just two of many interesting applications that could benefit from such research.

Boosting Classifiers for Music Genre Classification

2006 IEEE 14th Signal Processing and Communications Applications, 2005
This paper investigates discriminative boosting of classifiers to improve the automatic music genre classification performance. Two classifier structures, boosting of the Gaussian mixture model based classifiers and classifiers that are using the inter-genre similarity information, are proposed. The first classifier structure presents a novel extension
