TEMPORAL PROCESSING IN MUSICIANS AND NON-MUSICIANS
BackgroundTemporal processing abilities are important for speech perception, and they are generally superior in musicians than in non-musicians. Since there are many different training methods used to develop musical expertise (e.g. vocal or instrumental), these differences could lead to varying temporal processing abilities of acoustic signals.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

This work discusses the development of robot musicians that perform on real instruments through the usage of mechanical devices such as servomotors and solenoids. Construction of the hardware and programming of the software are discussed, as well as the research innovations linking music, robotics and computer science.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Investigation Methods for Vocal Onset—A Historical Perspective
The topic of phonation onset gestures is of great interest to singers, acousticians, and voice physiologists alike. The vocal pedagogue and voice researcher Manuel Garcia, in the mid-19th century, first coined the term “coup de la glotte”.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
