Mutagenicity of radiations and chemical mutagens in Sorghum
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1970A comparative study on the relative mutagenicity of radiations (X-and gamma rays) and chemical mutagens (EMS, MMS, dES and NEU) in inducing chlorophyll, viable and total mutations was made on three cultivated varieties (Co. 11, Co. 12 and Co. 18) of Eu-Sorghum. A critical comparison of the chlorophyll, viable and total mutations shows that the mutation

The Mutagenicity of Dinitrochlorobenzene
Archives of Dermatology, 1985A sample of dinitrochlorobenzene, determined by gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to be greater than 98% pure, was tested in the Salmonella typhimurium plate assay. The chemical evoked a marked mutagenic response at all concentrations tested (3 to 150 micrograms per plate).

A Mutagen is a Mutagen, Not Necessarily a Carcinogen
1986A largely unspoken but underlying assumption that has been made by authors throughout these proceedings is that processes involved in antimutagenesis are related to anticarcinogenesis, a corollary of the somatic mutation theory of carcinogenesis.

Mutagenicity of oxytetracycline
Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology, 1983Oxytetracycline hydrochloride, potassium nitrite and a combination of this antibiotic with the nitrite were tested for their mutagenicity in the host-mediated assay with mice as the host animals. The Salmonella typhimurium strain used was his G46. The bacteria were injected intraperitoneally, and the test compounds were administered by a stomach tube ...

On the mutagenicity of nitroimidazoles
Mutation Research/Reviews in Genetic Toxicology, 1981Regarding mutagenicity, metronidazole is one of the best-investigated compounds of the nitroimidazoles. This drug is mutagenic on bacteria, especially if base-pair tester strains are used and bacterial nitroreductases are present. The serum levels attained in man after intake of this drug are sufficient to cause mutations in bacteria.

Modulation of mutagenicity by phosphorylation of mutagen-metabolizing enzymes
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2004In this Minireview, we discuss our findings on phosphorylation of cytochromes P450 (CYP) and influence of this modification on metabolic toxification and/or detoxification of a variety of mutagens. We show that phosphorylation drastically interferes with the mutagenicity of several classes of compounds which are of high human relevance (cytostatic ...

Carcinogenesis, 1986
A new mutagenic compound has been isolated from ground beef which was fried at 300 degrees C for 5.5 min on each side. The new mutagen was purified using an aqueous acid extraction, XAD-2 adsorption-solvent elution, a series of preparative and analytical

Modulation of mutagenicity of various mutagens by lignin derivatives
Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis, 2003The effect of lignin on cytotoxicity, mutagenicity and SOS response induced by 4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide (4NQO), 3-(5-nitro-2-furyl)acrylic acid (5NFAA), 2-nitrofluorene (2NF) as well as hydrogen peroxide was investigated in bacterial assay systems, i.e. the Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA102 and the SOS chromotest with Escherichia
