Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Out-of-Band Mutual Coupling Suppression for Microstrip Antennas Using Characteristic Mode Analysis and Shorting Pins

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A method combining characteristic mode analysis and shorting pins is presented to reduce out-of-band mutual coupling of linearly polarized rectangular microstrip antennas.

Quantum discord dynamical behaviors due to initial system-cavity correlations

open access: yes, 2010
We analyze the roles of initial correlations between the two-qubit system and a dissipative cavity on quantum discord dynamics of two qubits. Considering two initial system-cavity states, we show that the initial system-cavity correlations not only can ...

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Mutual Coupling Reduction for Dual-Band MIMO Antenna with Simple Structure [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2017
In this paper, a novel dual-band MIMO (multi¬ple input, multiple output) antenna for WLAN (wireless local area network) applications is presented. The MIMO antenna contains two dual-band antenna elements, each of which comprises a T-shaped monopole and a

The new concept of nano-device spectroscopy based on Rabi-Bloch oscillations for THz-frequency range

open access: yes, 2017
We considered one-dimensional quantum chains of two-level Fermi particles coupled via the tunneling driven both by ac and dc fields in the regimes of strong and ultrastrong coupling.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

EBG Structures for Reduction of Mutual Coupling in Patch Antennas Arrays

open access: yesJournal of Communications Software and Systems, 2017
An important issue in antenna array design is reduction of mutual coupling. In square microstrip antennas this reduction can be achieved by using electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures.

Effects of Ground Constituent Parameters on Array Mutual Coupling for DOA Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2011
Effects of ground constituent parameters on the mutual coupling (MC) of monopole antenna array are investigated. This work augments an existing MC compensation technique for ground-based antennas and proposes reduction in mutual coupling for antennas ...

Energy efficiency of information transmission by electrically coupled neurons

open access: yes, 2012
The generation of spikes by neurons is energetically a costly process. This paper studies the consumption of energy and the information entropy in the signalling activity of a model neuron both when it is supposed isolated and when it is coupled to ...
