Short-Term Load Forecasting Based on Mutual Information and BI-LSTM Considering Fluctuation in Importance Values of Features

open access: yesIEEE Access
In short-term load forecasting, deep learning models with recurrent units are widely used. For Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) models, in terms of the input features at one particular time-step, there is a weight series for each input feature.

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

A mutual information based feature selection algorithm

open access: yes, 2011
The objective of the eliminating process is to reduce the size of the input feature set and at the same time to retain the class discriminatory information.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

When Wholes Resist Decomposition: A Spectral Measure of Epistemic Emergence

open access: yesEntropy
Multi-agent and distributed dynamical systems can exhibit coordinated behavior that is difficult to summarize in terms of independent parts. Integrated Information Theory (IIT) provides one influential notion of system-level irreducibility, but exact ...

Can High-Order Dependencies Improve Mutual Information based Feature Selection?

open access: yes, 2015
Mutual information (MI) based approaches are a popular paradigm for feature selection. Most previous methods have made use of low-dimensional MI quantities that are only effective at detecting low-order dependencies be-tween variables. Several works have

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Informational rescaling of PCA maps with application to genetic distance

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a powerful multivariate tool allowing the projection of data in low-dimensional representations. Nevertheless, datapoint distances on these low-dimensional projections are challenging to interpret. Here, we propose a

Spatially Modulated Morphotropic Phase Boundaries in a Compressively Strained Multiferroic Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The coexisting rhombohedral‐like (R′, MA) and tetragonal‐like (T′, MC) monoclinic phases in compressively strained bismuth ferrite thin films exhibit exceptional piezoelectric and magnetic properties. While previous studies have largely focused on probing the morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs) comprising ordered R′/T′ twins, their self ...
