First records of Arcyria marginoundulata Nann.-Bremek. & Y. Yamam. (Myxomycetes) in Poland

open access: yesActa Mycologica, 2013
A new to Poland species of a myxomycete, Arcyria marginoundulata, was found at two distant localities in the southern part of the country. Polish specimens are typical and have all important features characteristic of the species: minute, grey, stipitate

A FERM-adjacent (FA) region defines a subset of the 4.1 superfamily and is a potential regulator of FERM domain function

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2006
Background Proteins containing FERM domains comprise a diverse group of eukaryotic proteins that bind membrane proteins and lipids. In doing so, they organise membrane microstructure, and coordinate the disposition of signalling and cell adhesion ...

Mosquito vector‐associated microbiota: Metabarcoding bacteria and eukaryotic symbionts across habitat types in Thailand endemic for dengue and other arthropod‐borne diseases

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 1352-1368, January 2018., 2018
Current knowledge of mosquito‐associated microbial communities is limited; even though several studies have characterized mosquito bacterial microbiota in natural habitats, few have characterized eukaryotes. In this study, we employed next‐generation 454 pyrosequencing of 16s and 18s rRNA amplicon libraries to simultaneously describe both the bacterial

The PREDICTS database: a global database of how local terrestrial biodiversity responds to human impacts

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 4, Issue 24, Page 4701-4735, December 2014., 2014
The collation of biodiversity datasets with broad taxonomic and biogeographic extents is necessary to understand historical declines and to project – and hopefully avert – future declines. We describe a newly collated database of more than 1.6 million biodiversity measurements from 78 countries representing over 28,000 species, collated from existing ...

Identification of Plant Homologues of Dual Specificity Yak1‐Related Kinases

open access: yesComputational Biology Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Currently, Dual Specificity YAK1‐Related Kinases (MNB/DYRK) were found in slime molds, protista, fungi, and animals, but the existence of plant homologues is still unclear. In the present study, we have identified 14 potential plant homologues with the previously unknown functions, based on the strong sequence similarity.

Where do animal α-amylases come from? An interkingdom trip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Alpha-amylases are widely found in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Few amino acids are conserved among these organisms, but at an intra-kingdom level, conserved protein domains exist.

KF‐metaweb: A trophic metaweb of freshwater ecosystems of South Korea

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 33, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract Motivation The metaweb is a dictionary of nodes and their potential interactions developed for a particular region, focusing on a particular type of ecosystem. Based on the local biodiversity information at different spatial and temporal scales, the regional metaweb can be easily decomposed into local webs.

Keystone predatory protists are associated closely with ammonia‐oxidizing microorganisms in an acidic Ultisol

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 3, Issue 1, March 2024.
Abstract Predatory protists are widely recognized as critical biotic forces driving soil microbial communities, but their top‐down controls on ammonia‐oxidizing microorganisms (AOMs), the major players in nitrification, are largely unresolved. Here, we investigated the communities of predatory protists and their associations with AOMs using high ...
