Crossprotection against nontuberculous mycobacterial infections by Mycobacterium tuberculosis memory immune T lymphocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1986
Adoptive immunization of T cell-deficient recipient mice with M. tuberculosis-specific memory immune T lymphocytes conferred upon these animals the ability to express significantly enhanced resistance both to the homologous infection, and to three strains of nontuberculous mycobacteria.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 12, Page 1634-1648, June 2025.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

Mycobacterium intermedium Granulomatous Dermatitis from Hot Tub Exposure

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Nontuberculous mycobacteria, which are widespread in the environment, frequently cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. We report the first case of a patient with chronic granulomatous dermatitis caused by a rarely described ...

Prolonged Outbreak of Mycobacterium chimaera Infection After Open-Chest Heart Surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A thorough epidemiological and microbiological investigation of this prolonged outbreak involving 6 open-chest heart surgery patients provided evidence for the airborne transmission of Mycobacterium chimaera, a slow-growing nontuberculous mycobacteria ...

Nontuberculous mycobacterial infections: a potential complication of cosmetic procedures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Interest in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures has increased significantly over the last few decades. Billions of dollars are spent on these procedures annually.

A coiled‐coil domain triggers oligomerization of MmpL10, the mycobacterial transporter of trehalose polyphleate precursor

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 12, Page 1682-1697, June 2025.
Most MmpLs transport lipids and glycolipids of the complex mycomembrane of mycobacteria. This study shows that MmpL10 from Mycobacterium smegmatis, the transporter of the trehalose polyphosphate precursor, harbors a coiled‐coil‐like extension. Biochemical and electron microscopy studies demonstrate that the coiled‐coil enables MmpL10 to trimerize.

Mycobacterium abscessus urinary tract infection in an immunocompetent host: A case report and literature review

open access: yesIDCases, 2022
Mycobacterium abscessus is one of the nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), which can cause many clinical spectra, predominantly pulmonary infections followed by skin and soft tissue infections.

Mycobacterium avium Possesses Extracellular DNA that Contributes to Biofilm Formation, Structural Integrity, and Tolerance to Antibiotics. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Mycobacterium avium subsp. hominissuis is an opportunistic pathogen that is associated with biofilm-related infections of the respiratory tract and is difficult to treat. In recent years, extracellular DNA (eDNA) has been found to be a major component of

Clinical findings in relation to mortality in non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections : patients with Mycobacterium avium complex have better survival than patients with other mycobacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We compared the clinical findings and survival in patients with Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and other non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM). A total of 167 adult non-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients with at least one positive culture for ...

Silicosarcoidosis: Histologic and Clinical Features of an Occupational Granulomatous Disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 68, Issue 6, Page 491-507, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Sarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. Growing evidence indicates that occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is associated with an increased incidence of sarcoidosis. Yet a diagnosis of sarcoidosis rarely prompts investigation to identify preventable exposures.
