The major mycolic acids of Mycobacterium smegmatis
Progress in Lipid Research, 1982Mycolic acids derived from the cell wall of Mycobacterium smegmatis have been fractionated as their phenacyl esters by high performance liquid chromatography. Chromatography on a lo-pm particle size silica gel column resulted in the isolation of two minor (A and D) and two major (B and C) components.

A re-investigation of the mycolic acids of Mycobacterium avium
Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 2020Mycolic acid methyl esters were extracted from Mycobacterium avium by a mild saponification protocol, designed to preserve labile components. The resulting mixture of α-, keto- and wax ester mycolates was accompanied by some degraded ω-carboxymycolic acid dimethyl esters, whose overall structures were found to support previous studies.

Mycolic acids of Mycobacterium aurum
European Journal of Biochemistry, 1988Mycobacterium aurum (type strain) was analyzed for its mycolate content. Three types of mycolates were identified: di‐unsaturated, oxo and dicarboxy mycolates, each type being constituted by two subtypes. The acid released by pyrolysis was identified as docosanoic acid.

Mycolic acid patterns of some species of Mycobacterium

Apoptosis Modulation by Mycolic Acid, Tuberculostearic Acid and Trehalose 6,6′-Dimycolate
Journal of Infection, 2002The object of our study is to demonstrate that some components of M. tuberculosis, such as cord factor or mycolic acid or whole bacteria can prolong cell survival compared to controls. The cells treated with cord factor or mycolic acid at a concentration of 5 microg/ml were 65+/-8% viable reaching 70+/-8% at a concentration of 10 microg/ml.
