Mycoparasitism by Stephanoma Phaeospora

Mycologia, 1973
SUMMARY Stephanoma phaeospora is a biotropic mycoparasite. It contacts its hosts by means of hook-shaped branches but does not penetrate host mycelium. Of 97 species of fungi tested, 14 were hosts to S. phaeospora; all were in the Ascomycetes or Deuteromycetes, except Ustilago avenae and U. maydis of the Basidiomycetes.

Chytrid mycoparasitism of entomophthoralean azygospores

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2013
Mycoparasitism - when one fungus parasitizes another - has been reported to affect Beauveria bassiana and mycorrhizal fungi in the field. However, mycoparasitism of any fungi in the Order Entomophthorales has never been reported before now. The majority of entomophthoralean species persist as resting spores (either zygospores or azygospores) in the ...

Mycoparasitism of Coemansia species

Mycological Research, 1999
The mode of hyphal interaction and parasitism of Coemansia spp., mainly C. aciculifera and C. thaxteri, by Gliocladium roseum, Fusarium flocciferum and Verticillium psalliotae, species that occurred with the Coemansia spp. in wheat rhizospheres, was observed in mixed cultures on low nutrient medium. Two types of interaction occurred. G.

STUDIES ON MUCORALEAN MYCOPARASITES

New Phytologist, 1978
SUMMARYThe effects of nine species of Piptocephalis de Bary on the growth of four host fungi were studied. Depending on temperature and the mycoparasite‐host combination, host growth was either unaffected, inhibited or stimulated, In addition, mycoparasite‐induced abnormal morphology in the host often resulted. Hypotheses are presented to explain these

Detection of mycoparasitism by infrared photomicrography

Microbial Ecology, 1983
The fungusTrichoderma harzianum which parasitizes its hostRhizoctonia solani (AG 1-6) was observed under a light microscope and the interaction sites photomicrographed with infrared film. Bright regions indicating infrared irradiation were observed at the interaction sites, apparently due to the high parasitic activity occurring there. The possible use

The Mycoparasitism of Platygloea bispora

Kew Bulletin, 1999
Summary. Platygloea bispora Hauerslev, an auricularioid heterobasidiomycete, parasitises species of the genus Tubulictinis Donk. The parasite grows intrahymenially in host fructifications and lacks basidiocarps. Colacosomes are responsible for the host-parasite interaction.

Transformation of the mycoparasite Gliocladium

Current Genetics, 1989
Gliocladium roseum and G. virens are saprophytic fungi with biological control activity against various plant pathogens, including those causing seedling diseases in cotton. Genetic transformation systems were developed to provide the potential for incorporating additional traits to improve the biocontrol efficacy of Gliocladium.

Mycoparasitism and Biocontrol

1996
Exploitation of mycoparasites as biocontrol agents in agriculture is well-documented. A number of them have shown potential to control Rhizoctonia solani in a diversity of crops or sites, alone or integrated with chemical or mechanical techniques. In respect to the pathogen’s behaviour on the plant surface, the biocontrol effect ranges from niche ...

Mycoparasitic species ofTrichodermaproduce lectins

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1996
Culture filtrates and mycelial extracts of two mycoparasitic Trichoderma species were tested for the presence of lectins, by haemagglutination with human and marsupial erythrocytes. In Trichoderma viride, haemagglutinating activity was present in both mycelial extracts and culture filtrate.
