Mycoparasitism by Stephanoma Phaeospora

SUMMARY Stephanoma phaeospora is a biotropic mycoparasite. It contacts its hosts by means of hook-shaped branches but does not penetrate host mycelium. Of 97 species of fungi tested, 14 were hosts to S. phaeospora; all were in the Ascomycetes or Deuteromycetes, except Ustilago avenae and U. maydis of the Basidiomycetes.

Transformation of the mycoparasite Gliocladium

A novel bisegmented double-stranded RNA virus was identified in the mycoparasitic and opportunistic fungus Hypomyces chrysospermus. The RNA1 genome segment comprises 1866 bp and encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). The RNA2 segment comprises 1822 bp and encodes a capsid protein.
