The Growth Cycle of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973
Three strains of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides were studied. Dark-ground microscopy of broth cultures showed some filamentous forms, but single cells predominated. The filaments disintegrated on agitation. Single cells passed through 0.3-[tm pores but not 0.22-[tm pores of Millipore membranes.

A Galactan from Mycoplasma mycoides

Nature, 1958
LITTLE is known of the carbohydrates of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides, the organism responsible for bovine contagious pleuropneumonia. (This is the nomenclature usod by R. S. Breed, E. G. D. Murray and N. R. Smith in the seventh edition of “Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology”, p. 1. (Williams and Wilkins Co., Baltimore, 1957). We use the

Endotoxin from Mycoplasma mycoides

Nature, 1962
Plackett and Buttery1,2 extracted lipopolysaccharide from the V5 strain of M. mycoides by hot phenol3. They obtained a ‘galactan’ yielding 90 per cent D-galactose, about 4 per cent lipids, less than 2 per cent nitrogen and less than 0.1 per cent phosphorus. The galactan was not pyrogenic in rabbits and had the properties of a complex hapten.

Pneumonia in Goats Caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1981
SUMMARY Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides (large-colony type) was isolated from the lungs of a goat with pneumonia. Clinical signs included inappetence, weakness, listlessness, coughing, dyspnea, pyrexia, slight nasal discharge, and lameness. Tylosin (4 mg/kg of body weight) was administered each day for 4 days, resulting in slow recovery.

Adherence of Mycoplasma mycoides Subspecies mycoides to Cultured Endothelial Cells

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, 1989
The LC- and SC-type strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides were examined for adherence to guinea pig erythrocytes and bovine and caprine endothelial cells. The LC-type strains but not the SC-type strains adsorbed guinea pig erythrocytes and caprine endothelial cells.

Nucleotide sequence of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies Mycoides plasmid pKMK1

Plasmid, 1992
To facilitate the development of mycoplasmal cloning vectors, we have determined the nucleotide sequence of pKMK1, a cryptic plasmid isolated from Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides. It is 1875 bp in length and contains two open reading frames (ORFs) that share homology with ORFs from members of a large family of gram-positive bacterial plasmids which

A study of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides and Mycoplasma mycoides var. capri by cross-protection tests in mice

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1969
Abstract Using a mouse protection test, each of 6 inactivated vaccines prepared from different strains of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides and inoculated intravenously immunised mice strongly against not only the homologous strain but also the 5 heterologous strains. Antigenic stimulation with M. mycoides var.

The influence of hopanoids on growth of Mycoplasma mycoides

Archives of Microbiology, 1982
Hopane glycolipid, isolated from Bacillus acidocaldarius, was studied in its ability to support growth from Mycoplasma mycoides var. capri as substitute for sterols. All attempts to culture Mycoplasma on hopane glycolipid failed. When added together with cholesterol, the effect of HGL was a reduction in growth rate.

Pathogenicity of a caprine strain of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides for cattle

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1980
Abstract The caprine strain (Ib9) of M. mycoides, given by endobronchial inoculation, is capable in inducing infection in calves. Typical CBPP lesions were produced in imported breeds when they were simultaneously infected with a mouse passaged strain of T. vivax.

Mycoplasma mycoides Transplacental Transfer in Cattle

Research in Veterinary Science, 1969
SUMMARY Six cows were exposed to virulent Mycoplasma mycoides by endobronchial intubation 2 to 4 weeks before calving. Cows and calves were killed within 6 hours of birth. The calves did not such colostrum. Complement fixing antibodies were found in the sera of the dams, M.
