Noradrenergic innervation of serotoninergic neurons in the myenteric plexus

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1987
AbstractThe monoaminergic innervation of the guinea pig small intestine was investigated to determine if there is an anatomical basis for the hypothesis that serotoninergic and noradrenergic neurons physiologically interact in the enteric nervous system.

A cytofluorometric study of the myenteric plexus in the guinea pig

Cell and Tissue Research, 1974
The myenteric plexus of the guinea pig ileum was studied in stretch preparations of the longitudinal muscle layer with adherent plexuses, and in freeze-dried transverse sections from the small intestinal wall. Catecholamines and serotonin (5-HT) were visualized according to the Falck-Hillarp technique.

Megacystis Secondary to Myenteric Plexus Pathology

Urologia Internationalis, 2001
Herein, 2 cases of megacystis secondary to myenteric plexus pathology are reported. Unlike the entity of visceral myopathy, there was ganglion cell loss both in the bladder and in the colon of these 2 cases. Moreover, they did not present any gastrointestinal symptoms.

MYENTERIC PLEXUS IN CONGENITAL MEGACOLON

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1948
SINCE 1886, when Hirschsprung 1 published a report entitled ""Sluggishness of the Stool in the Newborn, Resulting from Dilatation and Hypertrophy of the Colon," there have been many reports in the medical literature describing various aspects of megacolon.

Phosphatase activity in the myenteric plexus.

Morphologie et embryologie, 1983
Intense and very intense reactions were obtained for acid phosphatase, calcium activated ATP-ase (pH 9.4), magnesium activated ATP-ase (pH 7.2) and glucose-6-phosphatase in the cytoplasms of the myenteric plexus nerve cells of the small intestine of Macacus rhesus and rabbit.

GABAergic Neurons in the Myenteric Plexus

1992
Some 20 years ago, Hobbiger [8] speculated on the basis of pharmacological studies that GABA, then recently discovered as a constituent of nervous tissue, might have a role in neurotransmission in the enteric nervous system of the vertebrate gut. Subsequent work, however, soon focussed on GABA in relation to the vertebrate central nervous system ...

Postnatal development of the myenteric plexus in cat stomach.

Acta physiologica et pharmacologica Bulgarica, 1984
The postnatal development of the myenteric plexus in cat stomach has been studied at birth, on the 14th, 30th, 45th and 180th postnatal days, using light- and electronmicroscopic methods. In newborn kittens the main network of the Auerbach plexus is well formed, but the myenteric ganglia are composed of nerve cells with different maturity and a scarce ...

Constipation and congenital disorders of the myenteric plexus.

Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 1984
Full-thickness muscle biopsies have been taken from patients with severe disabling chronic constipation that has not responded to conservative measures. Assessment by neurohistochemical techniques has revealed that a range of neuronal dysplasias of the myenteric plexus are responsible in many cases; these include aganglionosis (Hirschsprung's disease),
