FAMILIAL MYOCARDIAL FIBROSIS

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1970
Abstract. A family is described, suffering from myocardial fibrosis. The maternal grandmother died at an early age. The mother and one of her sisters likewise died young, probably from cardiac causes, and of the present generation seven of the ten members died acutely or after a period of heart failure between the ages of 22 and 53.

Biomarkers of Myocardial Fibrosis

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 2011
Increased cardiac collagen deposition is observed in almost every cardiac disease and plays an important role in the deteriorating function of the diseased heart. Propeptides of procollagen types I and III, the 2 major collagen types in the heart, can be detected in circulation.

Endothelins and myocardial fibrosis

Journal of Cardiac Failure, 2003
Endothelins are associated with cardiac remodeling. These peptides are the most powerful vasoconstrictor described-whether this remodeling is a direct effect of this hormone or indirect response to a relative ischemia promoted by vasoconstrictor effect.

Chemotherapy induced myocardial fibrosis

Clinical Oncology, 1994
Alkylating agents have a well established role in the treatment of malignant disease, with well documented side effects. This case history, however, illustrates the susceptibility to these agents shown by some patients. It is suggested that, when drug induced pneumonitis is noted, careful screening of left ventricular function should be performed in ...

Targeting Hypertensive Myocardial Fibrosis

High Blood Pressure & Cardiovascular Prevention, 2005
In normal myocardium, myocytes represent only one-third of all cells, with the remaining two-thirds including fibroblasts and small cellular populations. While several weeks post partum the myocyte count stops increasing, the connective tissue cell count does not. In the early phases of arterial hypertension, adaptive left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy (

Gut microbiota and myocardial fibrosis

European Journal of Pharmacology, 2023
Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is a pathophysiological condition that accompanies various myocardial diseases and comprises a damaged myocardial matrix repair process. Although fibrosis plays a vital role in repair, it ultimately alters cardiac systolic and diastolic functions.

Thiouracil-induced myocardial fibrosis

Pathology - Research and Practice, 1978
Rabbits were fed with thiouracil for 8 months. Subsequently their hearts were examined electron microscopically as well as biochemically for collagen and hexosamine content. Chronic treatment with thiouracil induced an increase in interstitial connective tissue collagen and hexosamine without visible necrosis.
