Myocardial mechanics in allylamine-induced myocardial fibrosis

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1986
To examine the effect of fibrosis on myocardial mechanics, we studied isolated left ventricular papillary muscles from 18 rats given 0.1% allylamine, an agent known to cause myocardial fibrosis, in drinking water for 4-8 wk. Six control rats were given tap water. Left ventricular hydroxyproline concentration was higher in the allylamine-treated group [

Myocardial Fibrosis in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Revista Española de Cardiología (English Edition), 2005
Rev Esp Cardiol. 2005;58(5):585-6 585 A 20-year-old man was referred to our myocardial disease unit for family screening. His father presented obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and had an automatic defibrillator implanted for sustained ventricular tachycardia. His brother had died of sudden death at the age of 12.

Myocardial fibrosis predicts ventricular tachyarrhythmias

Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2017
Myocardial fibrosis is a common pattern in the setting of different heart diseases, and promotes ventricular tachyarrhythmias by creating a vulnerable substrate for reentrant activity and by favoring the emergence of triggers. Currently, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance is considered the reference method for the noninvasive ...

Myocardial fibrosis in infancy

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1950
Summary A case of myocardial fibrosis in infancy is presented, together with a report of the literature. The possibility that myocardial infection with concomitant damage may have taken place during pregnancy is postulated, and it is suggested that there may be some relationship between our findings and a history of fairly recent rheumatic fever in ...

Mediastinal Fibrosis Causing Myocardial Ischemia

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2005
This report describes an unusual etiology of coronary artery disease. A 60-year-old male presented with angina. He was treated with methysergide for migraine. It was determined that the patient possessed an extremely thick-walled ascending aorta that caused the coronary ostial narrowing.

MYOCARDIAL FIBROSIS IN CYSTIC FIBROSIS OF THE PANCREAS

Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 1970
SYNOPSIS A series of 6 cases of cystic fibrosis of the pancreas complicated by myocardial fibrosis is presented. This complication has been reported on only 2 occasions in the English literature. In the Dunedin hospital, which serves a population of less than 250,000, 5 cases have been found at necropsy since 1948.

Noncoding RNAs and myocardial fibrosis

Nature Reviews Cardiology, 2014
Cardiac stress leads to remodelling of cardiac tissue, which often progresses to heart failure and death. Part of the remodelling process is the formation of fibrotic tissue, which is caused by exaggerated activity of cardiac fibroblasts leading to excessive extracellular matrix production within the myocardium.

Patterns of myocardial fibrosis.

Journal of molecular and cellular cardiology, 1990
The interstitium of the myocardium is composed of predominantly type I collagen; type III collagen is present to a lesser extent. The fibrillar collagens serve as tethers between muscle cells, muscle fibers, and blood vessels while also providing a scaffolding that supports the muscular and vascular compartments.
