Monitoring of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery
Background Postoperative myocardial infarction (POMI) is an important complication after noncardiac surgery, that is associated with increased risk of mortality. In order to improve prognosis, routine postoperative monitoring with cardiac biomarkers is recommended to identify patients at risk for POMI early after surgery.

Comparison of acute and chronic myocardial injury in noncardiac surgical patients.
PURPOSE:Perioperative myocardial injury is a predictor of postoperative mortality, but the clinical impact of chronic injury during the perioperative period has not been fully investigated.

Incremental Prognostic Value of NT-proBNP Beyond Treadmill Testing for Perioperative Cardiovascular Events in Noncardiac Surgery Candidates: Results from a Multicenter Prospective Cohort [PDF]
Background: Accurate perioperative cardiovascular risk stratification remains challenging in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. Although treadmill testing (TMT) is widely used for functional assessment, its ability to identify truly high-risk ...

Intravenous lidocaine reduces systemic inflammation but not myocardial injury following thoracic surgery for lung cancer: a randomized controlled trial [PDF]
Background Elevated high-sensitivity troponin T levels shortly after noncardiac surgery are closely linked to myocardial injury, a key factor in 30-day postoperative mortality.

Abstract Aims Perioperative myocardial infarction/injury (PMI) is a surprisingly common yet difficult-to-predict cardiac complication in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. We aimed to assess the incremental value of preoperative cardiac troponin (cTn) concentration in the prediction of PMI.

Myocardial injury in noncardiac surgery [PDF]
Myocardial injury is defined as an elevation of cardiac troponin (cTn) levels with or without associated ischemic symptoms. Robust evidence suggests that myocardial injury increases postoperative mortality after noncardiac surgery.
