Ultrastructure of the Myometrium

1989
The concept that a well-developed appreciation of structure is an essential prerequisite to an understanding of function permeates research into all physical processes but is especially true for the biological sciences. The electron microscopic and x-ray diffraction studies conducted on the myometrium during the past 25 years have provided important ...

Sodium channels and transporters in the myometrium

Current Opinion in Physiology, 2020
In excitable cells such as neurons and cardiomyocytes, sodium influx across the plasma membrane contributes to the resting membrane potential, and sodium is the key ion for generating action potentials. In myometrial smooth muscle cells, however, the functions of sodium influx have not been fully elucidated.

The Myometrium in Pregnant Women with Obesity

Current Vascular Pharmacology, 2020
Obesity is a worldwide public health problem, affecting at least one-third of pregnant women. One of the main problems of obesity during pregnancy is the resulting high rate of cesarean section. The leading cause of this higher frequency of cesarean sections in obese women, compared with that in nonobese women, is an altered myometrial function that ...

Myocytes, Myometrium, and Uterine Contractions

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2006
Abstract:  The pregnant uterus is unique because of the dramatic functional changes that occur in the peripartum period. To promote the concept that we have a relatively poor understanding of the physiology of parturition, we will posit 10 facts that are so obvious and so clearly accepted as facts that they probably are not even facts at all.

Postpartum Diffuse Calcification of the Myometrium

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 1996
An apparently unique case of diffuse calcification of the myometrium occurring in the puerperum in a 24-year-old woman is reported. Vaginal delivery by forceps of a healthy baby was followed by septic shock and massive postpartum hemorrhage, necessitating hysterectomy 4 weeks later.

Vessels Within Vessels in the Myometrium

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2002
We have encountered a peculiar vascular architecture in the myometrium wherein arteries are found free-floating within cleft-like spaces. Using different colored dye injections in the uterine arteries and veins, we demonstrated that these spaces are venous channels.

Biochemistry of the Myometrium

1977
In this consideration of the Biochemistry of the myometrium, we shall be concerned mainly with its contractile function. The uterus is an organ specialized, on the one hand, for the reception of the ovum by the endometrium and the continuous nourishment of the developing fetus and, on the other hand, for its expulsion, by means of the strong isometric ...

Unconjugated Estradiol in the Myometrium of Pregnancy

Endocrinology, 1976
By chemically digesting myometrium in a mixture of NaOH and sodium dodecyl sulphate, estradiol could be recovered almost completely by extraction with ethyl acetate. The concentration of estradiol-17beta (E2) in the extracted samples could reliably be determined by radioimmunoassay.

[Myometrium diseases].

Journal de radiologie, 2002
Leiomyoma and adenomyosis are the most frequent myometrial disorders, followed by cystic and vascular disorders. After an update on the anatomy, physiology and histology of the myometrium, the authors will describe the normal sonographic and MRI aspects of the uterus.
