Regulation of nonmuscle myosins by heavy chain phosphorylation
Journal of Muscle Research & Cell Motility, 2001Functional activities of many nonmuscle myosin isoforms are (or are postulated to be) regulated by heavy chain phosphorylation. Depending on the myosin isoform, the serine or threonine residues located within the head (myosin I or myosin VI) or within the C-terminal tail domains (myosin II or myosin V) can be phosphorylated by more or less specific ...

Control of cardiac myosin heavy chain gene expression
Microscopy Research and Technique, 2000The alpha- and beta-myosin genes extend over 51 kb on chromosome 14 in human and 11 in mouse separated by about 4.5 kb of intergenic sequence. They are located in tandem in the order of their expression during development. Transcription of each gene is independently controlled but coordinately regulated.

Myopathies associated with myosin heavy chain mutations.
Acta myologica : myopathies and cardiomyopathies : official journal of the Mediterranean Society of Myology, 2005Myosin, a molecular motor, converts chemical energy into mechanical force. The motor domain of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) includes an ATP binding region with ATPase activity and an actin-binding region. Motor function is achieved by conformational changes, at hydrolysis, of ATP causing a shift in the angle between the actin binding head and the rod ...
