Geometrically Tunable Scaffold‐Free Muscle Bioconstructs for Treating Volumetric Muscle Loss
Volumetric muscle loss is associated with traumatic muscle resulting in permanent functional impairment. Mold‐based, scaffold‐free, high‐density muscle tissue bioconstructs are developed in customizable geometric shapes and sizes. The transplanted rectangular solid‐shaped muscle bioconstructs improved muscle force recovery and tissue regeneration in ...

Ablation of smooth muscle myosin heavy chain SM2 increases smooth muscle contractility and results in postnatal death in mice [PDF]
The smooth muscle myosin heavy chains (SMHC) are motor proteins powering smooth muscle contraction. Alternate splicing of SHMC gene at the C-terminus produces SM1, and SM2 myosin isoforms; SM2 (200 kDa) contains a unique 9-amino-acid sequence at the ...

Characterization of a Human Perinatal Myosin Heavy-Chain Transcript [PDF]
Using a monoclonal antibody specific to the neonatal myosin heavy chain, we have cloned the full‐length heavy chain cDNA from an 18‐week human fetal cDNA library. Ribonuclease protection assays were used to survey a human muscle collection ranging from 11 weeks gestation to 16 years.

Matrix Stiffness Governs Fibroblasts’ Regulation of Gingival Immune Homeostasis
This study identifies a “mechano‐epigenetic” checkpoint in which matrix stiffness governs the immune responses of gingival fibroblasts. Using biomimetic hydrogels and human gingival explants, the studies revealed that restoring extracellular matrix stiffness actively suppresses inflammation via non‐canonical NF‐κB signaling and DNA methylation ...

Neurons have a membrane periodic skeleton (MPS) composed of actin rings interconnected by spectrin. Here, combining chemical and genetic gain- and loss-of-function assays, we show that in rat hippocampal neurons the MPS is an actomyosin network that ...

Expression of the myosin light chains 1 and 2 in the developing fast muscle of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) [PDF]
Myosin, the major component of striated muscle, is a complex molecule of heavy and light chains, which undergo continuous replacement to meet developmental and environmental demands.

Tropomyosin antibody: the specific localization of tropomyosin in nonmuscle cells [PDF]
An antibody against purified chicken skeletal muscle tropomyosin is used in indirect immunofluorescence to visualize the localization of tropomyosin in a variety of nonmuscle cells.

Myosin heavy-chain composition in striated muscle after tenotomy [PDF]
The myosin heavy-chain (MHC) isoform pattern was studied by biochemical methods in the slow-twitch (soleus) and fast-twitch (gastrocnemius) muscles of adult rats during atrophy after tenotomy and recovery after tendon regeneration. The tenotomized slow muscle atrophied more than the tenotomized fast muscle.

Scars exhibit vascular abnormal alterations, including upregulated NRP1 expression in endothelial cells, increased vascular density and branching, compromised vessel wall integrity, and incomplete pericyte coverage. Therapeutic targeting of NRP1 through hydrogel spray delivery offers a promising approach to normalize aberrant vasculature and prevent ...
