Post-traumatic Myositis Ossificans Circumscripta

Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2007
A 66-year-old woman presented with painful gait and a large, firm, nonmobile mass in her right foot. She had undergone four previous surgeries to remove a recurring “calcified hematoma” that resulted from an injury sustained 3 decades previously. An unusually large ossific mass (7.0 × 7.0 × 2.0 cm) consistent with post-traumatic myositis ossificans ...

Myositis Ossificans Circumscripta Involving Bilateral Masticatory Muscles

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2011
Myositis ossificans (MO), as its name implies, is ossification and bone formation within a muscle. Pathogenesis is not all clear, but trauma is universally recognized as a trigger event. Myositis ossificans can be divided into 2 classifications: MO progressiva and MO traumatica. When it affects the muscles of mastication, it causes severe trismus. This

Myositis ossificans circumscripta: computed tomographic diagnosis.

Radiology, 1983
Computed tomography was performed in five patients with myositis ossificans circumscripta. In three cases, and possibly four, CT scans obtained during the active stage of the pathologic process demonstrated findings that in general corresponded to the "zone phenomenon" seen on histology, although a distinct peripheral ring of ossification was not ...

Ultrastructural finding of vascular degeneration in myositis ossificans circumscripta (fibrodysplasia ossificans)

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1993
A case of myositis ossificans circumscripta (fibrodysplasia ossificans) of the masseter muscle has been studied ultrastructurally. It showed atrophy of muscle fibres with deranged myofilaments, adjacent to dense fibrous tissue, osteoid and bone. A large number of the cells found in the dense fibrous tissue showed vacuolation and separation of membrane ...

The Angiographic Appearance of Myositis Ossificans Circumscripta

Radiology, 1972
In its active phase, the arteriographic findings in myositis ossificans circumscripta will consist of hypervascularity. The criteria for a malignant lesion, however, will be absent—arteriovenous shunting, venous laking, and vessel amputations. If biopsy is considered, it should be taken from the periphery of the mass in its most mature region.
