Zur Myositis ossificans circumscripta
European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1982Diagnosis of localised myositis ossificans is difficult in the initial stage. A history of trauma is frequently missing. Clinical symptoms point in the direction of osteomyelitis or soft tissue abscess. Sonotomography is useful for localisation and delineation of the lesion. Biopsy is the only reliable method to establish the diagnosis.

Myositis Ossificans Circumscripta in Para-/Tetraplegics
Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, 1982At the Hospital of Physical Medicine, Hornbaek, we analysed in retrospect 52 cases of myositis ossificans circumscripta (MOC) among 605 patients with para/tetraplegia. MOC proved significantly more common after total than after subtotal spinal cord injuries. MOC was not observed in any case above the motor level of the spinal cord lesion.

Myositis ossificans circumscripta of the knee improved by alendronate
Joint Bone Spine, 2004Myositis ossificans circumscripta (MOC) is a rare benign disorder characterized by heterotopic ossification of soft tissues. We report a case in a 21-year-old male who presented with knee pain after strenuous physical activity. Evidence of inflammation of the knee and a hard swelling in the subquadricipital area were the main physical findings.

A case of myositis ossificans circumscripta (fibrodysplasia ossificans) of the masseter muscle has been studied ultrastructurally. It showed atrophy of muscle fibres with deranged myofilaments, adjacent to dense fibrous tissue, osteoid and bone. A large number of the cells found in the dense fibrous tissue showed vacuolation and separation of membrane ...

Myositis ossificans circumscripta: a paediatric case and review of the literature
European Journal of Pediatrics, 2009Myositis ossificans circumscripta (MOC), characterised by non-neoplastic heterotopic bone formation in soft tissue and skeletal muscle, is rare in children. At onset, it is difficult to distinguish MOC from a musculoskeletal infection or neoplasm, particularly in absence of trauma, and a biopsy is frequently required.

Post-traumatic Myositis Ossificans Circumscripta
Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2007A 66-year-old woman presented with painful gait and a large, firm, nonmobile mass in her right foot. She had undergone four previous surgeries to remove a recurring “calcified hematoma” that resulted from an injury sustained 3 decades previously. An unusually large ossific mass (7.0 × 7.0 × 2.0 cm) consistent with post-traumatic myositis ossificans ...
