First record of the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis (Bivalvia, Mytilidae) in Brazil
The genus Mytilus comprises a large number of bivalve mollusk species distributed throughout the world and many of these species are considered invasive.

Recombinant Proteins: A Molecular Tool to Understand Marine Adhesion and to Advance Biomaterials
The production of recombinant proteins represents a fundamental step in the characterisation of marine invertebrate adhesives and in the development of bio‐inspired glues. The association of these proteins with other components such as ions, proteins, polysaccharides, or polymers enables the fabrication of biomaterials for various healthcare ...

Thirty Years of the Biology of Spermatozoa: The Rise and Future of an Evolutionary Paradigm
A sperm bundle taken from the seminal vescicles of the dung beetle, Onthophagus taurus. Image credit: Leigh W. Simmons. ABSTRACT In the early 1970s, Geoff Parker recognised that because females frequently mate with multiple males, competition for fertilizations will impose significant sexual selection on males and their ejaculates.

p63 in Mytilus galloprovincialis and p53 family members in the phylum Mollusca [PDF]
Genes of the p53 family are known to be critical regulators of the cell cycle. They have already been established as possible biomarkers. Elaborate regulation mechanisms result in numerous cDNA and protein isoforms being expressed from each gene of the ...

Uranium and Neptunium Accumulation by the Byssus of Mytilus galloprovincialis
Investigation of uranyl(VI) and neptunyl(V) uptake in mussel's byssus by combining in vivo bioaccumulation with ex vivo isotherms. Data highlight the role of DOPA‐rich mfp proteins in binding both actinyl cations and partial Np(V) reduction. Such data link molecular interactions to radionuclide uptake in the framework of marine radioecology.

Mussels are one of the most cultivated and commercialized bivalves worldwide and in southern Chile its culture represent an important economic activity. The species identification within the Mytilus genera, by morphological features, is unreliable, so we

Molecular and evolutionary analysis of mussel histone genes ("Mytilus" spp.): possible evidence of an "orphon origin" for H1 histone genes [PDF]
[Abstract:] Linker histones are a divergent group of histone proteins with an independent evolutionary history in which, besides somatic subtypes, tissue- and differentiation-specific subtypes are included.

Stress Nutrition in Aquatic Animals: From Definition to Practice
ABSTRACT Aquaculture faces numerous challenges, with stress being one of the major issues that lead to growth loss, metabolic disorders, weakened immunity, redox imbalance, and organ damage in aquatic animals. Nutritional intervention is one of the effective strategies to address these problems. Traditional research has primarily focused on the impacts
