Induction of metamorphosis of pediveliger larvae of the musselMytilus galloprovincialisLamarck, 1819 using neuroactive compounds, KCl, NH4Cl and organic solvents [PDF]

open access: yesBiofouling, 2008
Pediveliger larvae of Mytilus galloprovincialis were subjected to a series of bioassays to investigate the induction of metamorphosis using neuroactive compounds, K(+), NH(4)(+) and organic solvents.

Dynamics of microcystins in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis

Toxicon, 1999
The accumulation and depuration of hepatotoxins produced by the freshwater cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis was studied. Mussels were fed daily 10(5) cells/ml of the toxic cyanobacterium that produces microcystin-LR (MCYST-LR), for four days. After that period animals were placed in toxin free water and were

Immunolocalization of yessotoxins in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis

Toxicon, 2003
This study reports, for the first time, immunocytochemical evidence of the distribution of algal yessotoxins (YTXs) in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. Immunopositivity to YTXs was found in immunocytes and in the digestive gland. With regards the gland, the positivity was mainly present in the lumen of both tubules and ducts. No YTXs were detected

DNA damage and apoptosis in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis

Marine Environmental Research, 2002
The effects of known genotoxic substances (4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide, benzo[a]pyrene, teniposide, etoposide, cycloheximide, tributyltin) on human cells (FLC, HL-60) and on mussels were investigated. The correlations between formation of DNA strand breaks and DNA fragmentation characteristic for the process of apoptosis were estimated.
