Privacy-Aware Processing of Biometric Templates by Means of Secure Two-Party Computation [PDF]
The use of biometric data for person identification and access control is gaining more and more popularity. Handling biometric data, however, requires particular care, since biometric data is indissolubly tied to the identity of the owner hence raising ...

Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Turning big data into tiny data: Constant-size coresets for k-means, PCA and projective clustering [PDF]
@d can be approximated up to (1 + e)-factor, for an arbitrary small e > 0, using the O(k/e2)-rank approximation of A and a constant. This implies, for example, that the optimal k-means clustering of the rows of A is (1 + e)-approximated by an optimal k ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

The crystal structures of Cd3[Co (CN)6]2 • x H2O and Cd3[Co(CN)6]2 have been determined by counter methods. The lattice constants of the cubic face-centered cell is a = 10.576 (4) Å for both compounds. The least-squares refinement gave R-factors of 10.5

This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Model of the N-quark potential in SU(N) gauge theory using gauge-string duality
We use gauge-string duality to model the N-quark potential in pure Yang–Mills theories. For SU(3), the result agrees remarkably well with lattice simulations.

A New Pseudopolymorph of Hexakis-(4-cynaophenyl)benzene [PDF]
The title compound (systematic name: benzene-4,4′,4′′,4′′′,-4′′′′,4′′′′′-hexaylhexabenzonitrile dichloromethane disolvate), C48H24N6•2CH2Cl2, crystallizes as an inclusion compound during the slow diffusion of methanol into a solution of hexakis(4 ...
