B-type natriuretic peptide and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide are biomarkers secreted both in response to myocardial stretch and increased ventricular wall stress. They are now largely used in cardiovascular disease in adults, especially as diagnostic and prognostic tools.

N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide in prevalent peritoneal dialysis patients.
Advances in peritoneal dialysis. Conference on Peritoneal Dialysis, 2008Previous reports have shown that N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-Pro-BNP) is a predictive marker for mortality in both peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) patients. The aim of the present study was to clarify whether NT-Pro-BNP reflects a specific status in PD patients.

Serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide in normal Thai subjects.
Journal of the Medical Association of Thailand = Chotmaihet thangphaet, 2003Aminoterminal portion of pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) appears to be useful in the screening, diagnosis and prognosis of left ventricular dysfunction and congestive heart failure. The purpose of this study was to determine the values of serum NT-proBNP in normal Thai subjects compared with subjects from other countries.
