N400 to Semantically Anomalous Pictures and Words
Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 1992Abstract The N400 component of the human event-related brain potential appears to be related to violations of semantic expectancy during language comprehension. The present experiment investigated whether the N400 is related specifically to activity in a language system or is an index of a conceptual system that is accessed by both ...

The N400 reflects problems of thematic hierarchizing
Neuroreport, 2001Using event-related potentials (ERPs), we present evidence that the current interpretation of the N400 component must be extended. This component is elicited in incorrect German sentences with two grammatical subjects, thereby showing its sensitivity to thematic relations between arguments in a sentence (who is doing what to whom).

A cortical network for semantics: (de)constructing the N400
Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 2008Measuring event-related potentials (ERPs) has been fundamental to our understanding of how language is encoded in the brain. One particular ERP response, the N400 response, has been especially influential as an index of lexical and semantic processing. However, there remains a lack of consensus on the interpretation of this component.

Schizotypal traits and N400 in healthy subjects. [PDF]
We examined whether correlations previously found between symptoms of schizophrenia patients and the amplitude of an event-related potential (ERP), the N400, could be also found between schizotypal experiences of healthy subjects and the N400. We chose a semantic categorization task previously used with patients.

Before the N400: Effects of lexical–semantic violations in visual cortex
Brain and Language, 2011There exists an increasing body of research demonstrating that language processing is aided by context-based predictions. Recent findings suggest that the brain generates estimates about the likely physical appearance of upcoming words based on syntactic predictions: words that do not physically look like the expected syntactic category show increased ...

N400 and emotional word processing in Parkinson’s disease.
Neuropsychology, 2017Emotional and cognitive disturbances are common complications in Parkinson's disease (PD). N400 is an event related potential (ERP) strongly linked to lexical-semantic processing and has demonstrated alterations in amplitude and latency when PD patients performed semantic priming tasks.

Language functions in schizophrenia and N400 [Şizofrenide dil i?şlevleri ve N400]
2019One of the most prominent clinical features of schizophrenia is impaired language function. Clinical studies of schizophrenia have identified poverty of content, tangentiality, distractable speech, derailment, and incoherence as features of schizophrenic language.
