High concentrations of Na(+) and Cl(-) ions in soil solution have simultaneous detrimental effects on growth of faba bean under salinity stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
First published online: August 16, 2010Despite the fact that most plants accumulate both sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl–) ions to high concentration in their shoot tissues when grown in saline soils, most research on salt tolerance in annual plants has ...

The impact of different Zinc (Zn) levels on growth and nutrient uptake of Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) grown under salinity stress.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Salinity is among the most important abiotic stresses, which negatively affect growth, nutrient uptake and yield of crop plants. Application of different micronutrients, particularly zinc (Zn) have the potential to ameliorate the negative impacts of ...

Effects of salinity stress and seed inoculation with bio fertilizers on germination parameters, K and Na content of rye (Secale cereal L.) seedling [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و فناوری بذر ایران, 2020
In order to study the effects of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and salinity stress on seed germination parameters, K and Na content of rye (Secale cereal L.) seedling , two factorial experiments based on CRD and RCB design were conducted ...

HKT1;1 and HKT1;2 Na+ Transporters from Solanum galapagense Play Different Roles in the Plant Na+ Distribution under Salinity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022
Salt tolerance is a target trait in plant science and tomato breeding programs. Wild tomato accessions have been often explored for this purpose. Since shoot Na+/K+ is a key component of salt tolerance, RNAi-mediated knockdown isogenic lines obtained for Solanum galapagense alleles encoding both class I Na+ transporters HKT1;1 and HKT1;2 were used to ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Effect of increasing salinity on growth and mineral composition of wheat varieties and role of sodium exclusion capacity in salt tolerance mechanisms

open access: yes, 2002
A few wheat varieties including two Japanese wheat varieties were evaluated for their salt tolerance at seeding stage, their behavior to increasing salinity levels and role of Na exclusion capacity in salt tolerance mechanisms.

Isolation and characterization of bacterial endophytes for growth promotion of Phaseolus vulgaris under salinity stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
>Magister Scientiae - MScAs the global human population grows, so does the demand for faster food production rates. Owing to this, agricultural practices have had to expand and move into semi-arid and arid regions, too, where frequent irrigation is ...

Physiological adaptability of Salvadora oleoides to sodicity and salinity stress

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2022
An experiment was conducted in microplots at ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana during 2013–16 to study the adaptive response of Salvadora oleoides, a facultative halophyte under saline, sodic and mixed saline-sodic ...

Planktonic foraminiferal spine versus shell carbonate Na incorporation in relation to salinity [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2018
Abstract. Sea surface salinity is one of the most important parameters to reconstruct in paleoclimatology, reflecting amongst others the hydrological cycle, paleo-density, ice volume, and regional and global circulation of water masses. Recent culture studies and a Red Sea field study revealed a significant positive relation between salinity and Na ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
