Bending Behavior of Nailed-Jointed Cross-Laminated Timber Loaded Perpendicular to Plane

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Wood Science and Technology, 2017
In this study, the bending behavior of cross-laminated timber (CLT) connected by nails were investigated. Especially, the load-carrying capacity of the nail-jointed CLT under out-of-plane bending was predicted by the lateral resistance of the used nails.

Governing Yield Modes for Common Bolted and Nailed Wood Connections

open access: yes, 2000
Connections in wood structures are important when designing for ductility. The 1997 Uniform Building Code has taken this into consideration when designating wind and earthquake load duration factors for connections.

Investigation Of Different Fasteners In Roof Truss Elements In The Woodworking Industry

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Forestry
In this study, the compressive safety stresses of the roof trusses were determined depending on the different joining angles (90° at the rafter, 90° at the base and bisector) at the connection points of the rafter and base elements used in traditional ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Empirically derived connection design properties for Guadua bamboo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Three connection design properties (dowel embedment strength, slip modulus and screw withdrawal capacity) were determined for one species of bamboo (Guadua angustifolia Kunth) using experimental methods adopted from timber engineering.
