Bone engineering via synthetic biomaterials implies the interplay of various agents including a synthetic scaffold, bone progenitor cells and growth factors. To perform successfully the ideal scaffold should be a 3D interconnected porous structure promoting cell adhesion, proliferation and vascularisation and allowing bioactive substances to be ...

Electrospraying of a nano-hydroxyapatite suspension
Journal of Materials Science, 2004Over the past two decades it has been established that bone repair in the presence of implant materials can be optimized by control of their surface chemistry. Certain calcium phosphate materials are similar in composition to bone mineral and have been found to be osteoconductive [1–3].

Synthesis and Characterization of Nano Hydroxyapatite
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Hydroxyapatite (HA) is considered to form major component of bones and teeth. Synthesis of hydroxyapatite (Calcium phosphate, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) was carried out to produce nano powders. The size and shape of nano particles was controlled during synthesis by using templates of Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB).

Fluoride sorption by nano-hydroxyapatite/chitin composite
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009In this study the fluoride adsorption potential of novel nano-hydroxyapatite/chitin (n-HApCh) composite was explored. The sorbent was characterized using FTIR studies. The effects of pH, interfering anions and contact time were studied. The sorption data obtained under optimized conditions were subjected to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms.

Biocompatibility Evaluation of Nano Hydroxyapatite-Starch Biocomposites
Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology, 2011In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of nano hydroxyapatite (nHAp) in the presence of starch matrix via a biomimetic process for in vitro biocompatibility evaluation. Characterization of the samples was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR).

Fe-Doping-Induced Magnetism in Nano-Hydroxyapatites
Inorganic Chemistry, 2017Doping of biocompatible nanomaterials with magnetic phases is currently one of the most promising strategies for the development of advanced magnetic biomaterials. However, especially in the case of iron-doped magnetic hydroxyapatites, it is not clear if the magnetic features come merely from the magnetic phases/ions used as dopants or from complex ...

Preparation and characterization of antimicrobial nano-hydroxyapatite composites
Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2014Deep infection of prosthesis is one of the most frequent complications after joint replacement. One of the most effective ways is to introduce directly some antibiotics in the local site of the surgery. In the present study, an antimicrobial composite has been fabricated using nano-hydroxyapatite particles as carriers for the antimicrobial drug of ...

Electrohydrodynamic Print-Patterning of Nano-Hydroxyapatite
Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology, 2006Hydroxyapatite nano-particles have been synthesised by a precipitation reaction. These particles were then incorporated in a suspension containing ethanol as the liquid carrier. The suspension was subjected to flow in an electric field to generate a jet and, subsequently, droplets, which were deposited according to pre-determined topographies using a ...

A comparative study of functionalized nano-hydroxyapatite
2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB), 2015In an attempt to obtain appropriate components for complex transfection systems hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (nHAp) were synthesized by means of wet chemical precipitation method, under atmospheric pressure, in the absence or presence of different low-molecular or polymeric cationic dispersants, i.e. arginine, linear or branched polyethylenimine (LPEI,
