Properties of concrete incorporating nano-silica

Construction and Building Materials, 2012
Abstract This study investigated the effect of colloidal nano-silica on concrete incorporating single (ordinary cement) and binary (ordinary cement + Class F fly ash) binders. In addition to the mechanical properties, the experimental program included tests for adiabatic temperature, rapid chloride ion permeability, mercury intrusion porosimetry ...

Synthesis of nano silica particle from silica sand and characterization of nano silica based R134a refrigerant

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of a mixture of different percentages of nano-silica with R134a as a refrigerant material. This work shows ways for enhancing the thermal performance of the vapor compression process and the effect of the suspended silica nanoparticle in the R134a refrigerant.

The reactivity of nano silica with calcium hydroxide

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2011
AbstractThe reactivity of nano silica (SiO2) with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) was evaluated and characterized in this study. Ca(OH)2 activated nano SiO2 takes place through an exothermic process, which is mainly attributed to the breakdown of SiOSi bonds.

Obtaining transparent silica glass from nano-silica hydrosol

Ceramics International, 2021
Abstract Transparent silica glass is widely used in various fields. However, a simple and economical method of synthesis remains to be developed for high-precision device manufacturing. In this study, transparent silica glass is fabricated from low-cost commercial nano-silica hydrosol.

Nano-sensing with a Silica Microtoroid

CLEO:2011 - Laser Applications to Photonic Applications, 2011
We report nano-detection using a silica microtoroid with a reference interferometer. Single polystyrene nano-beads at a record 12.5nm radius are detected; Influenza-A virion binding events with signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 38:1 are observed.

Nano-Silica Composite Laminate

2013 IEEE 63rd Electronic Components and Technology Conference, 2013
This paper introduces a newly-developed Nano-Silica Composite Laminate packaging technology that utilizes a nano-silica matrix composite material with outstanding properties. Nano-Silica Composite Laminate packaging technology enables us to create a thinner, downsized packaging that is less susceptible to warpage.

Nano Silica in Cement Hydration

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018
Abstract In this paper, the performance of nanoscale SiO2 in cement paste has been studied. The compressive strength of hardened cement paste and the formation of Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) in presence of nano silica (SiO2) increased. Heat of hydration increased with time with the addition of nanosilica.

Effect of colloidal nano-silica on alkali–silica mitigation

Journal of Sustainable Cement-Based Materials, 2016
Alkali–aggregate reaction was first observed in the US during 1920s. In the last decades, several studies investigated the mechanisms of alkali–silica reaction in concrete and the extent of damage it may cause to the cementitious matrix. Research on alkali–silica reaction mitigation covers mainly the use of supplementary cementitious materials and ...

Coincorporation of nano‐silica and nano‐calcium carbonate in polypropylene

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2011
AbstractIn this study, various polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites were prepared by melt blending method. The effects of different spherical nanofillers, such as 50 nm CaCO3 and 20 nm SiO2, on the linear viscoelastic property, crystallization behavior, morphology and mechanical property of the resulting PP nanocomposites were examined.
