Nanocrystalline materials and coatings
Abstract In recent years, near-nano (submicron) and nanostructured materials have attracted increasingly more attention from the materials community. Nanocrystalline materials are characterized by a microstructural length or grain size of up to about 100 nm.

Ultramicrotomy of nanocrystalline materials
Microscopy Research and Technique, 1995AbstractThe methodology and one of the first attempts to produce transmission electron microscopic (TEM) specimens of nanocrystalline metals, alloys and ceramics by ultramicrotomy are presented. Samples of the pure elements Co, Pd; alloys of Y‐12 at.% Fe, Al‐7 at.% Ag and W‐30 at.% Ga; and ZnO ceramic, were found to section successfully to varying ...

Diffusion in nanocrystalline materials
Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 2003Abstract The problem of calculating the effective diffusivity in nanocrystalline materials is addressed. Two simple two-dimensional grain patterns are constructed and several equations are derived from the Hart–Mortlock and Maxwell–Garnett equations. Monte Carlo computer simulation is used to test the validity of the various equations.

Thermal transport in nanocrystalline materials
Journal of Applied Physics, 2005In this work, thermal transport in nanocrystalline materials is studied using large-scale equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation. Nanocrystalline materials with different grain sizes are studied to explore how and to what extent the size of nanograins affects the thermal conductivity and specific heat.

Diffraction from Nanocrystalline Materials
2014Over the past two decades, advantages of SR in XRPD have been widely exploited in many applications, ranging from basic scientific research to technology. Probably less known is the potentiality of SR-XRPD in studying nanostructured and highly defected materials, which usually present large deviations from the reference “perfect crystal” model.

Nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials
Physica Scripta, 1992Nanocrystalline structures offer a new opportunity for tailoring soft magnetic materials. The most prominent example are devitrified glassy FeCuNbSiB alloys which reveal a homogeneous ultrafine grain structure of bcc-FeSi with grain sizes of typically 10-15 nm and random texture. Owing to the small grain size the local magneto-crystalline anisotropy is
