Nanophotonics with charged particles

open access: yes, 2023
(English) Among the fundamental constituents of matter, charged particles such electrons and positrons are leading protagonists in physical phenomena associated with small (~ meV) and high (~ MeV) energy scales. For example, conductive electrons in condensed-matter systems can collectively respond to the action of an external electromagnetic field and ...

Carbonized Polymer Dots‐Based Spectrally Adaptable Photonic Microbarcodes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores spectrally tunable photonics barcodes using carbonized polymer dots (CPDs) based on whispering gallery mode (WGM) photoluminescence. CPDs offer wavelength‐dependent emission from visible to near‐infrared (NIR), thereby enabling variable WGM emissions.

Computational nanophotonics in 3D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this PhD Thesis, we theoretically and numerically investigate novel aspects of light propagation in three-dimensional (3D) photonic band gap crystals that open up new opportunities to tune the interaction between light and matter. We also develop highly accurate nonreflecting boundary conditions for a mixed DG discretization of the Maxwell equations ...

Pyroelectric Doping Reversal of MoS₂ p‐n Junctions on Ferroelectric Domain Walls Probed by Photoluminescence

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The potential of pyroelectricity for controlling electron doping in monolayer MoS2 on periodically poled LiNbO3 substrates is demonstrated. Pyroelectric charges are shown to convert p‐n into n‐p homojunctions formed in MoS2 on domain walls. The variation in the MoS2 electron density from 300 to 10 K is consistent with the change in the spontaneous ...

Fabrication Optimization of van der Waals Metasurfaces: Inverse Patterning Boosts Resonance Quality Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
An optimized fabrication approach for the nanostructuring of optical metasurfaces from van der Waals materials like hexagonal boron nitride is presented. The resonator geometries show enhanced geometric homogeneity, resulting in a significant increase in quality factors of symmetry‐protected bound states in the continuum resonances.

Polarization-insensitive integration of nanoparticle-on-a-slit cavities with dielectric waveguides for on-chip surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy

open access: yesnpj Nanophotonics
In the nanoparticle-on-a-slit (NPoS) cavity, a variation of the nanoparticle-on-a-mirror geometry, a metallic nanoparticle is placed on a functionalized narrow slit created on a metal plate so that two nanometric-scale gaps enable extreme plasmonic ...

Pseudo‐Dichroism: Nanophotonic Induction of Chiroptical Activity in Symmetric Molecular Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
By analyzing vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra of chiral nanomaterials, we distinguish genuine molecular chirality (true dichroism) from measurement artifacts (pseudo dichroism) using a novel, robust framework. The spectral criteria we establish apply broadly to all chiroptical techniques in nanomaterial research, enhancing precision in ...
