Gapped ferromagnetic graphene nanoribbons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2011
We theoretically design a graphene-based all-organic ferromagnetic semiconductor by terminating zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNRs) with organic magnets. A large spin-split gap with 100% spin polarized density of states near the Fermi energy is obtained, which is of potential application in spin transistors.

COFs Meet Graphene Nanoribbons [PDF]

open access: yesChem, 2020
2D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have received considerable attention because of their crystallinity, permanent porosity, and tunability, yet they exhibit low in-plane conductivity. In this issue of Chem, Fischer and co-workers report an approach for growing 2D COF thin films featuring high in-plane conductivity for potential use in organic ...

Nanoribbon-Based Electronic Detection of a Glioma-Associated Circular miRNA

open access: yesBiosensors, 2021
Nanoribbon chips, based on “silicon-on-insulator” structures (SOI-NR chips), have been fabricated. These SOI-NR chips, whose surface was sensitized with covalently immobilized oligonucleotide molecular probes (oDNA probes), have been employed for the ...

Phosphorene nanoribbons [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2014
Edge-induced gap states in finite phosphorene layers are examined using analytical models and density functional theory. The nature of such gap states depends on the direction of the cut. Armchair nanoribbons are insulating, whereas nanoribbons cut in the perpendicular direction (with zigzag and cliff-type edges) are metallic, unless they undergo a ...

Electronic transmission in Graphene suppressed by interlayer interference

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2013
We investigate electronic transport property of a graphene monolayer covered by a graphene nanoribbon. We demonstrate that electronic transmission of a monolayer can be reduced when covered by a nanoribbon.

Enhancing The Extremely High Thermal Conduction of Graphene Nanoribbons

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2013
Graphene and Graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) are found to have superior high thermal conductivity favorable for high-performance heat dissipation. In this letter, by using molecular dynamics simulations, we show that constructing specific structure can ...

Nanoribbon Biosensor-Based Detection of microRNA Markers of Prostate Cancer

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the major causes of death among elderly men. PC is often diagnosed later in progression due to asymptomatic early stages. Early detection of PC is thus crucial for effective PC treatment.

Transport of fullerene molecules along graphene nanoribbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study the motion of C60 fullerene molecules (buckyballs) and short-length carbon nanotubes on graphene nanoribbons. We demonstrate that the nanoribbon edge creates an effective potential that keeps the carbon structures on the surface.

Improving performance of Si/CdS micro-/nanoribbon p-n heterojunction light emitting diodes by trenched structure

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
Realizing high performance silicon based light sources has been an unremitting pursuit for researchers. In this letter, we propose a simple structure to enhance electroluminescence emission and reduce the threshold of injected current of silicon/CdS ...

Phthalocyanine Nanoribbons Fabricated by Template-Free Electrophoretic Deposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2013
A simple method of constructing organic phthalocyanine nanoribbons by template-free electrophoretic deposition is provided. Copper phthalocyanine molecules in low protonation degree driven under electric field enable the intermolecular ordered assembling
