Nanosecond laser induces proliferation and improved cellular health within the retinal pigment epithelium [PDF]
BackgroundAge-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss in those over 60 years of age. Although there are limited interventions that may prevent the development or progression of disease, more efficacious treatments are ...

Millisecond laser machining of transparent materials assisted by nanosecond laser
A new form of double pulse composed of a nanosecond laser and a millisecond laser is proposed for laser machining transparent materials. To evaluate its advantages and disadvantages, experimental investigations are carried out and the corresponding results are compared with those of single millisecond laser. The mechanism is discussed from two aspects:

Revival of femtosecond laser plasma filaments in air by a nanosecond laser
Short lived plasma channels generated through filamentation of femtosecond laser pulses in air can be revived after several milliseconds by a delayed nanosecond pulse. Electrons initially ionized from oxygen molecules and subsequently captured by neutral oxygen molecules provide the long-lived reservoir of low affinity allowing this process.
