Bulk Nanostructured Multicomponent Alloys

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2001
Bulk nanostructured composite materials can be obtained by partial devitrification of slowly cooled bulk glass-forming multicomponent metallic glasses or by blending a glassy matrix alloy with insoluble second-phase particles by solid state processing.

Precipitate Strengthening of Nanostructured Aluminium Alloy

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2012
Grain boundaries and precipitates are the major microstructural features influencing the mechanical properties of metals and alloys. Refinement of the grain size to the nanometre scale brings about a significant increase in the mechanical strength of the materials because of the increased number of grain boundaries which act as obstacles to sliding ...

Nanostructured WCCo alloy prepared by mechanical alloying

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 1996
Abstract Nanocrystalline cemented carbide powder of WCCo was directly synthesized by mechanical alloying. The structure evolution of the powders was monitored by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and thermal analysis. Results show that the formation of the compounds is controlled by an inter-diffusion reaction between elements. Powders

Alloy effects in nanostructures

Nanostructured Materials, 1993
Abstract Thermal stability and microstructure of nanocrystalline alloys are determined by the interaction of the chemical components with the topological defects. An important aspect of this interaction is the reduction of the grain boundary specific energy by grain boundary segregation.

Alloy thermodynamics in nanostructures

Journal of Materials Research, 1994
The importance of the interactions between alloy atoms and topological defects for the thermodynamic properties of nanostructured alloys is pointed out. The McLean model for grain boundary segregation is extended to yield an expression for the total Gibbs free energy of an alloy polycrystal.

Microstructure of nanostructured Fe40Ni38Mo4B18 alloy

Journal of Materials Science, 1999
Nanostructured Fe40Ni38Mo4B18 specimens with a wide range of different nanostructures can be produced by annealing the amorphous alloy in the temperature range from 700 K to 1060 K. The nanostructured Fe40Ni38Mo4B18 specimens prepared between 700 K and 760 K have a microstructure of the 4–9 nm fcc (Fe, Ni) solid solution crystallites embedded in the ...

Fabrication of Alloyed Plasmonic Nanostructures

2018 International Conference on Optical MEMS and Nanophotonics (OMN), 2018
We have fabricated homogeneous thin films of an alloy of Au and Ag, by annealing two consecutive deposited layers of Au and Ag. We have also successfully fabricated nanodisks and nanorods made of AuAg alloys by annealing the nanostructures at 300 °C for 5 hours showing that the nanostructures retain their shape after annealing.

Nanostructured amorphous Si-Au alloys

Nanostructured Materials, 1994
Abstract Nanostructured amorphous Si 1-X Au X -alloys (0.1 ≤ x Au ≤ 0.3) were produced by an inert-gas condensation and in-situ consolidation technique and investigated by Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and density measurements. The results are interpreted in terms of a microstructure which consists of nanometer-sized amorphous grains ...

Embedded Binary Eutectic Alloy Nanostructures

JOM, 2012
The properties of binary eutectic alloy nanostructures embedded within a matrix are discussed. It is demonstrated that GeAu and GeSn nanostructures embedded in SiO2 form in a bilobed structure as predicted by a simple theory. Upon heating, the nanostructures melt and assume a nominally compositionally homogeneous structure.
