ADDITION OF UNSYMMETRICAL DIENES TO ACYL-1,4-BENZOQUINONES AND OXIDATION OF THE ADDUCTS WITH MANGANESE DIOXIDE: A REGIOSPECIFIC ROUTE TO MONO- AND DI-METHYL-1,4-NAPHTHOQUINONES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2000
Regioselective Diels-Alder reactions of acyl-1,4-benzoquinones 1 with, severally, isoprene, trans-piperylene,1-acetoxy-1,3-butadiene and 1-methoxy-1,3-butadiene gave the corresponding adducts 2 in high yield.

Regioselective Synthesis and Cytotoxic Effects of New Juglone Derivatives with an Aliphatic Substituent at C(2) or C(3)

open access: yesBiomolecules
The naphthoquinone juglone (5-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione) (1) occurs abundantly in nature, especially in species belonging to the Juglandaceae family. Due to its multifaceted biological activities, this compound is considered a privileged structure in ...

Recent advances on naphthoquinone-imidazolyl and naphthoquinone-thiazolyl derivatives as photoinitiators of photopolymerization

open access: yesEuropean Polymer Journal
Visible light photopolymerization is facing a revolution with the development of energy-efficient light sources, namely LEDs. With the ongoing efforts to develop photoinitiating systems outperforming the existing ones in terms of polymerization rates and monomer conversions, the search for new families of dyes that have not been investigated yet in the

Synthesis of the Tetracyclic Spiro-naphthoquinone Chartspiroton

open access: yesOrganic Letters
Chartspiroton is a recently discovered naphthoquinone natural product that features a spiro-fused benzofuran lactone. We report its first synthesis via an 11-step linear sequence. The sterically hindered tetra-ortho-substituted biaryl subunit was installed by base-induced ring expansion of a readily available 1,3-indandione.
