A Comparative Biochemical Study of Oleate Hydratases

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 15, 14 August 2026.
Four oleate hydratases (Ohys) from diverse homologous families (HFams) were characterized side‐by‐side in terms of expression levels, oligomeric state, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) affinity, thermostability, and activity. A general favorable effect of the reduction of FAD to FADH2 for Ohy activity was demonstrated, with (R)‐10‐hydroxystearic acid (

CSF fibrinogen predicts longitudinal Tau accumulation in cognitively unimpaired older adults

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Blood–brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction is an early feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Fibrinogen represents a sensitive marker of BBB leakage, but whether it modifies longitudinal tau progression in cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals remains unknown.

Probing effect modification by socioeconomic status in associations between blood biomarkers of neuropathology and cognitive outcomes in the United States and India

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Socioeconomic factors influence cognitive outcomes and may modify associations between neuropathologies and cognitive outcomes, yet evidence from low‐ and middle‐income contexts remains scarce. METHODS We used harmonized data from nationally representative studies in the United States (Health and Retirement Study ‐ Harmonized ...

Interaction of the Gut Microbiota and the Enteric Nervous System: Implications in Gastrointestinal Disorders Associated With Autism Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in social interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. In addition to these core behavioral symptoms, gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are frequently reported, ranging from severe constipation to diarrhea.

The influence of rivers on seabird foraging ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1704-1734, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Rivers act as vital arteries to the world's oceans, delivering fresh water and nutrients that sustain marine ecosystems. Globally, river flow increasingly is being altered by climate change and anthropogenic pressures; yet the significance of rivers to predatory marine species, such as seabirds, and the extent to which river‐related changes ...

Development of Design‐Phase Digital Twin for Structural Optimization of a Biomedical Device

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 42, Issue 8, August 2026.
A digital twin optimized the structural performance of a multi‐component biomedical device interface by 75%. The work shows that wider adoption of digital twins can accelerate safer, more predictive medical device development across design, verification, and optimization stages.
