Classification and Segmentation of Mucus Morphology Using Deep Learning During Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
Summary A pretrained deep learning model can segment and classify mucus morphologies encountered during nasal endoscopy. Strong performance for different mucus morphologies supports the detection of sinonasal inflammation. This is the first study to objectively classify mucus morphology in nasal settings.

A influencia da administracao de estradiol nos receptores de estrogeno da mucosa nasal: estudo experimental em cobaias

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2014
Introdução: A literatura indica uma correlação entre estrogênio elevado no soro e sintomas nasais ou alterações inflamatórias na mucosa nasal. Os receptores de estrogênio tendem a ser controlados por retroalimentação negativa, para evitar um estímulo ...

External Validation of a Multivariable Diagnostic Prediction Model for Acute Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis in Tertiary Care Settings

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Prompt detection and intervention are crucial for improving outcomes in acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (AIFS). Diagnostic prediction models assist in risk‐stratification, but their accuracy requires testing through external validation.

Assessment of mucosal changes associated with nasal splint in a rabbit model

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2015
INTRODUCTION: There is no consensus on duration of the nasal splint after nasal septum surgeries. The pressure of nasal splint on the mucosa may cause tissue necrosis and nasal septum perforation.OBJECTIVES: To investigate the histopathological changes ...

Identification of Pannexins in Rat Nasal Mucosa

open access: yesAllergy & Rhinology, 2013
Pannexins are a second family of gap-junction proteins in vertebrates, classified as pannexin-1, pannexin-2, and pannexin-3. Pannexin-1 is one of the candidates for channel-mediated ATP release into the extracellular space. In airway epithelia, ATP signaling modulates multiple cellular functions such as mucus/ion secretion and mucociliary clearance ...

Factor Analysis‐Based Quantitative Endotyping Improves Associations With CRS Cross‐Sectional and Longitudinal Outcomes

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a heterogeneous inflammatory disease characterized by persistent sinonasal inflammation. There is increasing interest in endotype‐based classification, which categorizes CRS based on underlying inflammatory pathways.

The Risk of Rheumatic Disorders Among Patients With Rhinosinusitis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Emerging evidence suggests a possible link between rhinosinusitis and systemic rheumatic diseases; however, no meta‐analysis has comprehensively examined this association to date. We aimed to investigate if patients with rhinosinusitis have a predisposition to unmasking rheumatic diseases compared to individuals without ...

Patient‐Specific Coculture of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa Enhances Epithelial Barrier Disruption and Virulence in CRS

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that is associated with polymicrobial infections, often involving S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. It is unclear whether the polymicrobial context plays a role in exacerbating epithelial damage, inflammation, and resistance to therapy. Methods S. aureus and P. aeruginosa (n =

Cadherin‐26 Facilitates Transepithelial Migration of Eosinophils in Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (eCRSwNP) is characterized by persistent sinonasal inflammation and marked eosinophilic infiltration. Although the relationship between eosinophils and NP formation has been extensively studied, the mechanisms governing eosinophil transepithelial migration into the nasal mucosa ...
