Masayuki Sawashima, Hajime Hirose, and Osamu Fujimura at the University of Tokyo's Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (RILP), building on Dr. Shigeto Ikeda's 1962 fiberoptic bronchoscope during Japan's postwar surge in technological innovation.
