Case Report of Maxillary Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma Misdiagnosed as Periapical Lesion: Clinicopathological Alerts and Life‐Saving Lessons for Dentists

open access: yesAustralian Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This report describes a rare case of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma initially presenting with clinical features resembling an endodontic lesion. A 15‐year‐old male presented with progressive right maxillary swelling initially treated as a dental abscess.

Beneficence‐Based Obligations and Ethics Consultation in Assisted Dying

open access: yesBioethics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In ethical debates on assisted dying, the principle of respect for autonomy is usually invoked to justify respecting requests for assisted dying. However, there are not only autonomy‐based obligations, but also obligations arising from the principle of beneficence towards persons requesting assisted dying.

The impact of Foxp3+ regulatory T‐cells on CD8+ T‐cell dysfunction in tumour microenvironments and responses to immune checkpoint inhibitors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been a breakthrough in cancer therapy, inducing durable remissions in responding patients. However, they are associated with variable outcomes, spanning from disease hyperprogression to complete responses with the onset of immune‐related adverse events.

Overexpression of Transferrin Receptor in Esophageal Squamous Cell Cancer Suggests Poor Prognosis and Potential Therapy

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study aimed to evaluate transferrin receptor (TfR) expression in human esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) specimens and investigate the correlation between TfR overexpression and clinicopathological characteristics. Furthermore, we explored the potential of targeting iron metabolism pathways as a novel therapeutic strategy for ESCC.

The Positive Feedback of lncRNA ANRIL/miRNA‐339‐5p/ZBTB7A Suppresses Metastasis of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Cells via SREBP1‐FASN

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Disruptions in lipid metabolism can hasten disease progression and impose a heavier burden on patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The ANRIL/miR‐339‐5p/ZBTB7A axis creates a positive feedback loop that suppresses the lipid pathway. Furthermore, the interventions targeting ANRIL‐shZBTB7A and SREBP inhibitors can effectively disrupt lipid ...

The LGALS9/miR‐491‐5p Axis Regulates CD8+ T Cell Function and Inhibits the Progression of Gastric Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that LGALS9 is highly expressed in gastric cancer and may affect the development of gastric cancer by participating in the infiltration of CD8+ T cells. Knockout of LGALS9 can reverse T cell function and relieve immunosuppression, and enhance the killing effect of T cells on gastric cancer cells.

A11 Peptide Enhances Radiosensitivity by Degrading EphA2 in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
In EphA2‐high‐expressing nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells, radiation triggers RSK‐dependent phosphorylation of EphA2 at Ser897, which in turn activates AKT and promote radioresistance. The A11 peptide breaks this signaling cascade by degrading EphA2 and blocking its S897 phosphorylation, thereby markedly enhancing radiosensitivity.

The value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/ computed tomography (18F- FDG PET/CT) in the staging and impact on the management of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study sought to prospectively evaluate the influence of contrasted fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDGPET/CT) in the staging of and impact on the management plan for treatment in patients with ...

Oral Health—Head and Neck Cancers: Addressing Confounding Through Negative Control and Quantitative Bias Analyses

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives While there are plausible biological explanations for the association between oral health and head and neck cancers (HNC), existing studies have yielded conflicting results. A key concern is that these associations are influenced by mediators, unmeasured risk factors, and biases. To address this, a negative control exposure was used
