Conjugated secondary 12α-hydroxylated bile acids promote liver fibrogenesis

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2021
Background: Significantly elevated serum and hepatic bile acid (BA) concentrations have been known to occur in patients with liver fibrosis. However, the roles of different BA species in liver fibrogenesis are not fully understood.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Patient-specific iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes reveal variable phenotypic severity of Brugada syndromeResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2023
Summary: Background: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a cardiac channelopathy that can result in sudden cardiac death (SCD). SCN5A is the most frequent gene linked to BrS, but the genotype–phenotype correlations are not completely matched.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.
