Challenges in evaluating surgical innovation [PDF]
Research on surgical interventions is associated with several methodological and practical challenges of which few, if any, apply only to surgery. However, surgical evaluation is especially demanding because many of these challenges coincide.

ABSTRACT Background Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long‐term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during ...

Enhancing patient safety and quality of surgical cancer care: The French National Cancer Plans
Two National Cancer Plans (2003-2007 and 2009-2013) have been launched in France to organise the healthcare offer in order to enhance quality and safety. The current Cancer Plan(1) defines regulatory frameworks across the three major areas of cancer therapy: surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. These regulatory frameworks are based on three pillars:

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Introduction: Complete resection of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) eliminates the risk of bleeding1. Although AVMs that adjoin eloquent areas have been studied with functional neuroimaging or intraoperative mapping, 2 the usefulness of tractography has been limited to case reports or small series.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
