ABSTRACT Background Resistance movements that challenge government authority appear to be on the rise. While they may use violent or non‐violent tactics, non‐violent movements have become the most prevalent type of government opposition mobilization, outperforming violent movements by a 2‐to‐1 success rate in obtaining objectives.
