Mechanisms of angiotensin II natriuresis and antinatriuresis
American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 1985The aim of this study was to determine the role of changes in renal arterial pressure (RAP), renal hemodynamics, and tubular reabsorption in mediating the natriuretic and antinatriuretic actions of angiotensin II (ANG II). In seven anesthetized dogs, endogenous ANG II formation was blocked with captopril, and ANG II was infused intravenously at rates ...

Effects of Diet on Exaggerated Natriuresis in Hypertension
Clinical and Experimental Hypertension, 1981The effects of high and low salt diet on exaggerated natriuresis after volume expansion were examined in two groups of hypertensive patients, 6 with labile and 6 with fixed uncomplicated essential hypertension. Fixed hypertensives eliminated the administered salt-load faster than the labile hypertensives, and diet had no effect on the exaggerated ...

Facilitation of Natriuresis with Nifedipine in Normal Humans
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1988We tested the effect of dietary potassium (KCl, 20 mEq three times daily), calcium (Ca, 500 mg twice daily), sodium-potassium-dependent ATPase inhibition (digoxin), calcium channel blockade (nifedipine), and placebo on acute natriuresis in 14 normal subjects who received 2 L normal saline intravenously over 4 h.

The Role of Prostaglandins in Glucagon-Induced Natriuresis
Clinical Science, 19801. Three groups of anaesthetized dogs were studied to determine the role of renal prostaglandins in glucagon-induced natriuresis. 2. Urine flow, sodium and prostaglandin E excretion rates increased significantly in the experimental kidney with glucagon infusion (0.20 μg/min) into the renal artery.

Hypertension, Natriuresis, and the Renal Prostaglandins
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1969Excerpt Prostaglandins are a group of cyclical fatty acids with diverse potent biological activities which were discovered independently in the early 1930's by Goldblatt (1) and von Euler (2).

Natriuresis in Rats Acutely Depleted of Chloride
Clinical Science, 19771. Acute chloride depletion, without sodium depletion, was produced in rats by a single exchange peritoneal dialysis against sodium bicarbonate solution. Blood volume was restored after dialysis by infusion of salt-free albumin, and exogenous deoxycorticosterone and antidiuretic hormone were given. 2. Clearance studies in the period (3 h)

Cerebral involvement in dehydration-induced natriuresis
Brain Research, 1983Water deprivation caused daily urinary Na output to more than double in normal sheep, but caused no increase in Na excretion in sheep (A3VL-sheep) in which the anterior third ventricle wall had been ablated. Dehydrated A3VL-sheep exhibited a much greater degree of hypernatremia than dehydrated normal sheep, although water losses were similar in both ...

Pressure diuresis and natriuresis in cirrhotic rats
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1993Arterial hypotension in liver cirrhosis has been proposed as a major mechanism contributing to renal sodium and water retention. To evaluate kidney excretory responses at different levels of arterial pressure (AP), we have characterized the relationships between renal perfusion pressure (RPP) and sodium and water excretion in carbon tetrachloride ...

Natriuresis and vascular tone in toxemia of pregnancy
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1960E v E N though the signs and symptoms of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are well known, the etiology and exact pathophysiology remain obscure. Through meticulous prenatal and puerperal care by controlling the early manifestations of the disease, much has been accomplished in preventing the severe degrees of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

Exaggerated Natriuresis in ACTH Hypertension in Sheep
Nephron, 2008Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) administration to sheep (100 IU/day) produces a sustained increase in arterial pressure within 24 h. The effect of ACTH on excretion of an intravenous saline load was tested in 8 adult cross-bred Merino ewes. A significant diuretic response to saline loading was found after 24 h but no increased natriuresis.
