Natural Resource Abundance and Economic Growth

open access: yes, 1995
One of the surprising features of modern economic growth is that economies with abundant natural resources have tended to grow less rapidly than natural-resource-scarce economies. In this paper we show that economies with a high ratio of natural resource

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

MIF as an oncogenic driver of low‐heterogeneity melanomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Shvefel and colleagues identified tumor‐secreted macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as an upregulated cytokine that mediates immune resistance in melanomas with low‐intratumoral heterogeneity. MIF and its functional paralogue D‐dopachrome tautomerase (D‐DT or MIF‐2) have overlapping but nonidentical signaling functions and are hypothesized to

Natural reward as the fundamental macroevolutionary force [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection does not predict long-term progress or advancement, nor does it provide a useful way to define or understand these concepts. Nevertheless, the history of life is marked by major trends that appear progressive, and seemingly more advanced forms of life have appeared.

Multiple sclerosis clinical decision support system based on projection to reference datasets

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1863-1873, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a multifactorial disease with increasingly complicated management. Our objective is to use on‐demand computational power to address the challenges of dynamically managing MS. Methods A phase 3 clinical trial data (NCT00906399) were used to contextualize the medication efficacy of peg‐interferon beta‐1a vs ...

Naturalness and Naturalness Criteria [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
We analysis how to describe the level of naturalness and pointed out that Barbieri and Giudice's the widely adopted sensitivity criteria of naturalness can not reflect the level of naturalness correctly, we analysis the problems of the sensitivity criteria and proposed a new criterion that can solve these problems, and also give a clear physical ...
