Hydrophobicity causes anomalous migration of cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11 in SDS‐PAGE with low acrylamide concentration

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
SLC7A11 frequently migrates faster in SDS‐PAGE. The present study found that the high hydrophobicity of SLC7A11 causes its anomalous migration in SDS‐PAGE with a low concentration of acrylamide gel. Replacing isoleucine with asparagine reduced hydrophobicity and restored its normal migration at 55 kDa, revealing the role of hydrophobicity and gel ...

When Do Natural Mediation Effects Differ from Their Randomized Interventional Analogues: Test and Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In causal mediation analysis, the natural direct and indirect effects (natural effects) are nonparametrically unidentifiable in the presence of treatment-induced confounding, which motivated the development of randomized interventional analogues (RIAs) of the natural effects. The RIAs are easier to identify and widely used in practice.

METTL3 knockout accelerates hepatocarcinogenesis via inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress response

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

Natural Asset Beta [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Natural capital accounting is important to efforts that attempt to measure the value of nature to decide on how best to trade-off natural resource productive use and conservation. Much work on measuring reciprocal physical stocks and flows of natural resources between nature and the economy has occurred. However, the current open problem of translating

Possible role of human ribonuclease dicer in the regulation of R loops

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
R loops play an important role in regulating key cellular processes such as replication, transcription, centromere stabilization, or control of telomere length. However, the unscheduled accumulation of R loops can cause many diseases, including cancer, and neurodegenerative or inflammatory disorders. Interestingly, accumulating data indicate a possible

What elements should we focus when designing immersive virtual nature? A preliminary user study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Extensive research has confirmed the positive relationship between exposure to natural environments and human cognitive, behavioral, physical, and mental health. However, only some have easy access to nature. With electronic information and simulation technology advancements, digital nature experiences are widely used across various devices and ...
