In Situ 3D Bioprinting: Impact of Cross‐Linking on the Adhesive Properties of Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ 3D bioprinting enables the direct deposition of cell‐laden, adhesive biomaterials for on‐site tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of how cross‐linking influences the bioadhesive properties of hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting, highlighting cross‐linking triggers, bioadhesion mechanisms, polymer interpenetration ...

Thermal and Electrical Fault Diagnosis in Oil–Paper Insulation System: A Comparative Study of Natural Esters and Mineral Oil

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Power transformer insulation systems, composed of liquid and solid insulators, are continuously exposed to thermal and electrical stresses that degrade their performance over time and may lead to premature failure.

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.

Thermal Ageing of Dry Cellulose Paper Impregnated with Different Insulating Liquids—Comparative Studies of Materials Properties

open access: yesEnergies
Natural and synthetic esters are increasingly being chosen instead of mineral oil for environmental and fire safety reasons. However, their use in power transformers is limited due to insufficiently well-understood ageing processes affecting their ...

Highly Diastereo- and Enantioselective Allylboration of Aldehydes using alpha-Substituted Allyl/Crotyl Pinacol Boronic Esters via in Situ Generated Borinic Esters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Readily available, alpha-substituted allyl/crotyl pinacol boronic esters often give low E/Z selectivity (with Z favored) in reactions with aldehydes. We found that addition of nBuLi to the pinacol boronic ester followed by trapping of the alkoxide with ...

Strategies for Loading and Releasing Peptide Therapeutics in Biodegradable Carriers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biodegradable carrier‐based peptide delivery system is a powerful treatment platform for diverse diseases, owing to its superior therapeutic efficacy and low toxicity. This review examines the conventional peptide‐loaded carrier fabrication process and its current limitations.

Effect of Moisture on Particles Accumulation and Oil Breakdown Characteristics in Mineral Oil and Natural Ester Under Non-Uniform DC Electrical Field

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Natural ester is a good substitute for mineral oil. It has been successfully applied in power transformers, and its application scale will continue to increase.

BACH, a Bayesian Optimization Protocol for Accurate Coarse‐Grained Parameterization of Organic Liquids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a fully automated Bayesian optimization (BO) protocol for the parameterization of nonbonded interactions in coarse‐grain CG force fields (BACH). Using experimental thermophysical data, we apply the protocol to a broad range of liquids, spanning linear, branched, and unsaturated hydrocarbons, esters, triglycerides, and water.

Different Ways to Improve Natural Ester Oils

open access: yesTransportation Research Procedia, 2019
Abstract The issue of natural esters as a substitution for mineral oils is more complicated than it seems. The first impulse for this substitution rose up as a demand for environment-friendly transformer oil. The case of fault of the transformer with mineral oil represents severe damage to the surrounding area.

Crystal structure of the N-benzyloxycarbonyl-Alanyl-Phenylalanyl-methyl ester: the importance of the H-bonding pattern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Large crystals of the methyl ester of the N-a-benzyloxycarbonyl protected Ala-Phe dipeptide (Z-AF-OMe) were obtained after the very slow evaporation of a solution of the corresponding carboxylic acid (Z-AF-OH) in methanol containing an excess of HCl. The
