Comparison of antioxidant activities of fractionated extracts from seedlings and herb of Chelidonium majus L. using DPPH, ABTS and FRAP methods

open access: yesHerba Polonica, 2016
Introduction: Our study is a part of a trend of studies on the antioxidative properties of Chelidonium majus extracts or their fractions suggesting that antioxidant activities may depend on total flavonoid and/or alkaloid contents.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Characterisation of the transverse thermoelastic properties of natural fibres used in composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To predict the properties of a composite, it is necessary to identify the properties of the constituent materials, especially those of the fibre. Mechanical properties of natural fibres (NF) are anisotropic and cannot be characterised in the same way as ...

Effect of fibre treatments on interfacial shear strength of hemp fibre reinforced polylactide and unsaturated polyester composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Surface treatment of hemp fibres was investigated as a means of improving interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of hemp fibre reinforced polylactide (PLA) and unsaturated polyester (UPE) composites. Fibres were treated with sodium hydroxide, acetic anhydride,

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.

The Effect of TIBA and NPA on Shoot Regeneration of Cannabis sativa L. Epicotyl Explants

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L., family Cannabaceae) is a multi-purpose crop, used in the production of food, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and medicines. Therefore, development of new varieties with specific chemical profiles is necessary.

Why are natural fibres failing to deliver on composite performance? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The poor performance of natural fibres as composite reinforcements where the focus on chemical aspects has not yet delivered the "holy grail" of glass fibre replacement in volume applications is discussed.
