Chemical Engineering Science, 2016Abstract Dissociation kinetics of natural and artificial methane hydrate were studied experimentally and theoretically. The artificial methane hydrate was produced in the reactor, and the natural clathrate was extracted from the bottom of Lake Baikal.

However, it is believed that other scientists, including Priestley, may have observed their existence before this date. They are solid crystalline inclusion compounds consisting of polyhedral water cavities which enclathrate small gas molecules.
