Evaluation of Natural User Interfaces in the Creative Industries
Extended Abstracts of the 2020 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2020The case study presented in this paper is concerned with the applicability of natural user interfaces (NUI) in the context of previsualization (previs). For this purpose, we have developed a virtual reality (VR) based tool that includes NUIs as a novel way to perform previs-related tasks.

Natural user interface hardware
2013 IEEE Symposium on 3D User Interfaces (3DUI), 2013Summary form only given. One-year olds can use touch screens-youtube has proof of that. But why-what makes certain interactive devices so “natural” that any child can just pick them up and use them? The key seems to be user interface hardware that only allows for the one thing even 1-year olds can do-point.

Mobile accessibility: natural user interface for motion-impaired users
Universal Access in the Information Society, 2017We designed a natural user interface to access mobile devices for motion-impaired people who cannot use the standard multi-touch input system to work with tablets and smartphones. We detect the head motion of the user by means of the frontal camera and use its position to interact with the mobile device.

Natural User Interface for Information Retrieval
2013The Natural User Interface (NUI) offers a great potential to create new paradigms of interaction and it also create new challenges about how we interact with the content. We believe that novel applications oriented to academy or research with scientific data can be developed with this paradigm.

A method for an agile, user centered development of natural user interfaces
2017 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (SSCI), 2017In this work we introduce a novel iterative and user-centered method to facilitate the development of intuitive and natural user interfaces. To showcase our agile procedure we conducted an explorative user study, which focusses on intuitive and seamless gestures for controlling appliances in smart environments.

Using a natural language interface with casual users
International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1990Abstract Although there is much controversy about the merits of natural language interfaces, little empirical research has been conducted on the use of natural language interfaces for database access, especially for casual users. In this work casual users were observed while interacting with a real-life database using a natural language interface ...

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Automotive User Interfaces and Interactive Vehicular Applications, 2011
Natural user interfaces by means of gesture and speech interaction have become a hot topic in research as well as already for real products. Most use cases currently center around consumer electronics devices like smart phones, TV sets, gaming, or other large screens like tabletops.Motivated by the latest results in those areas, our vision is to apply ...

Natural User Interfaces for Adjustable Autonomy in Robot Control
IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2015The increasing popularity of robotics in modern society makes interacting and communicating with them of critical importance. Although one of the main goals in robotics research is to develop fully autonomous systems, the ability to control robots in teleoperation applications and provide guidance to them for semiautonomous tasks in a natural and ...

Natural User Interfaces: A Physical Activity Trainer
2018Despite the known health benefits of regular participation in physical activity people still refuse this practise. Nowadays, Virtual Reality (VR) is a very powerful and compelling computer tool by which humans can interface and interact with computer-generated environments. In this paper, we propose a virtual training system which can be customized for

Analytical Steps for the Validation of a Natural User Interface
2017Pedagogical Agents are primarily researched regarding their depiction or appearance on screen, rather than their capabilities to react to a learner in front of it. As it has been previously reported, we developed an agent system, which is based on an electronic educational instance for a learning module to incorporate information from the environment ...
